The Other Side of Hope
Erasmus+ youth exchange

IDPs in collective centers are less likely to be part of a wider community as they are less integrated, especially adults living in economically underdeveloped rural areas, with low quality of housing, local schools at a distance and the most important – little access to sustainable income generating and employment opportunities. Thus, IDPs in Georgia and in partner countries are still struggling to assimilate in a new milieu, cope with challenges related to education, poverty and discrimination. In order to cope with mentioned challenges, IDPs must have more opportunities to be integrated within local communities and their voice must be heard.

Our diverse consortium of youth NGOs with a solid background and experience relevant to the main idea of the project from Poland, Georgia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Armenia and Cyprus are eager to take this opportunity and take part in the project to make lives of the young IDPs better by fostering inclusion through the youth work. We will seek to make sure that participants develop a practical understanding through various social activities to better assist IDPs.

One of the main issues that will be addressed throughout the project is that unfortunately, it is still difficult to have an IDP status in Georgia as the civil society is not properly developed. The non-IDP community still sees the IDPs as refugees, thus, the negative opinion about the IDPs still lingers. It is one of the main challenges not only for Georgia but for Ukraine, Armenia and at some point, even for the EU member states. We believe that collaboration of the young people who are acting together with the common interests, can break these stereotypes, empower youth to improve self-esteem and integrate into local communities.

Together with our partners, we are confident that there is a “Hope” behind the creeping border and the message of the project ”The Other Side Of The Hope” will reach young people, partner countries, local communities and the local school near Tserovani refugee camp.

These objectives will be reached by:
– exchanging good practices of IDP inclusion between participants;
– empowering young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to feel more confident and reintegrated into local communities;
– raising awareness regarding the IDP status;
– assisting local communities and providing training through various games regarding effective communication ways with IDPs;
– breaking the stereotypes about the IDPs;
– sharing the knowledge between participants regarding the challenges that IDPs/refugees face in partner countries, including how the local authorities are supporting and improving their living conditions;
– raising awareness of the local community about the opportunities offered by Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps.
